Invasive Species Group - Terms of Reference

 

Purpose: -  To co-ordinate and implement actions to control alien invasive species in the Bassenthwaite catchment.

 

 

Activities: -

·           Identify a priority plan for the control of alien invasive species

·           Record the presence of Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed throughout the catchment, initially on an annual basis

·           Co-ordinate action to control Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed

·           Develop and test methods to control Crasulla helmsii

·           Implement a public awareness and involvement campaign

·           Seek resources to carry out these activities throughout the catchment

 

 

Communications: -

The Task Group will communicate with the following audiences:

  • The Partnership Group – A Task Group representative will attend progress meetings of the BLRP Partnership Group. Minutes of both meetings will be circulated to both groups
  • Parent organisations – Each representative will be responsible for formally communicating within their parent organisations
  • Other Task Groups – A Lake District National Park Representative will be responsible for contact with Bassenthwaite Reflections for reporting on the Alien Species programme
  • The public – The group will be responsible for ensuring that the public is informed as appropriate through the press releases and a public awareness campaign
